Investment in Medical Education and Healthcare: A Cornerstone for Building the Future
campus
Over the years, Jordan has made remarkable progress in various fields, including healthcare and medical education. With these advancements, the demand for high-quality services has grown, requiring continuous improvement in these sectors. Such progress not only enhances local efficiency but also creates new opportunities for innovation and helps bridge gaps in infrastructure and healthcare systems. We hope this will pave the way for health and educational institutions to work together for a healthier, more sustainable future.

Believing that medical education and healthcare are essential for building healthy, sustainable communities—and through a strong public-private partnership—the Saudi Jordanian Investment Fund has developed the Kingdom Healthcare and Medical Education Project. This project aims not only to invest in medical education and healthcare but also to offer proven, innovative solutions to the challenges we face.

In 2022, the Fund began turning this vision into reality by developing the Kingdom University of Medical Sciences, which will include the Kingdom University Hospital at a cost of up to 400 million US dollars. This project is the result of a collaboration among several parties, including Sidara Companies, responsible for design and supervision, along with two leading international institutions: UCL Medical School at University College London as an academic partner, and UCLA Health as a medical partner.

The project’s development was bolstered by extensive local efforts, involving experts and institutions directly linked to Jordan’s medical and educational sectors. A series of focused meetings was organized to present the project’s goals and features, ensure mutual understanding, and incorporate the suggestions of all stakeholders. This interaction has been fundamental in shaping the project to meet community needs and reflects our commitment to a collaborative approach where success depends on active participation from all parties.

The project continues to progress at a strategically chosen location near the King of Bahrain Forest, ensuring easy access for both Jordanians and international visitors. It aims to develop a university and hospital within an advanced infrastructure that will boost economic activity by supporting construction, communications, and logistics sectors, creating over 5,000 job opportunities.

The project will mark its first milestones with the opening of the Faculty of Medicine at the Kingdom University of Medical Sciences in September 2026 and the commencement of hospital operations in early 2027. This marks only the beginning: the project envisions enhancing both the quality and efficiency of medical education and healthcare by integrating clinical, educational, and research services on one campus. This integration will foster a new generation of distinguished doctors and medical scientists.

The university, with a capacity of 600 seats (admitting 100 students per year), will adopt a tailored medical curriculum that integrates artificial intelligence and modern technology. It will also emphasize a deep understanding of humanistic principles, ethics, community responsibility, and national pride. Additionally, the Faculty of Medicine’s flexible teaching methods will offer an extra bachelor’s degree in a medical science specialty alongside the MD program.

The hospital, with 330 beds, will deliver comprehensive, high-quality care using state-of-the-art technologies. Its services will include 72 outpatient clinics, a specialized children’s hospital, and 5 centers of medical excellence in specialties such as cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, neurology, hematology, and oncology. This is complemented by the Faculty of Medicine’s focus on research through 4 dedicated research centers in genetics, precision medicine, stem cells, bioinformatics, and health systems.

This landmark project in Jordan’s education and healthcare sectors promises significant benefits in academic excellence, innovative medical knowledge, and enhanced healthcare services. It is expected to improve public health and quality of life, boost Jordan’s competitiveness, and help reverse the brain drain by attracting expatriate Jordanian talent back home.

Moreover, alongside these developmental contributions and with the anticipated transfer of project ownership to the Jordanian Investment Fund after the investment period, the project will undertake initiatives that form its corporate social responsibility strategy.

In an era that demands an educational environment valuing excellence, technology, data, and effective research systems, managed with integrity and professionalism, the Kingdom Health will serve as a beacon of hope and progress; a valuable investment in Jordan’s present and a bright future for the nation and the Arab world.
